Replacing caffeine with healthier alternatives

  • Caffeine is a drug which is found in most of the beverages and can either have positive or negative effect in our bodies. It can have a positive effect on our bodies if it is taken in small proportions. On the other hand it can have adverse effects on our bodies if it’s abused and the withdrawal symptoms maybe severe which may include throbbing headaches, tiredness etc. Caffeine can block receptors in the brain that dilate blood vessels causing headaches. Quitting caffeine may be difficult to many and withdrawal symptoms can start as early as 12 to 20 hours.

Below are some of the ways that you can beat caffeine dependency with healthier alternatives.

  • Replace a small amount of regular coffee with decaf coffee –In the morning when you’re preparing your cup of coffee, you can mix half and half decaf grounds or beans with regular grounds or beans. This ensures that even if you drink more coffee than you intended, you’re still not getting as much caffeine as before.Coffee, Cup And Saucer, Black Coffee
  • Drink green tea- Green tea does have some small quantities of caffeine, not as much as coffee, soda, or energy drinks. If you are feeling the need for a drink, you should opt for green tea rather than coffee or soda. This will help you keep going while still reducing your overall intake of caffeine.
  • Substituting Sodas with green tea or water-You can beat caffeine dependency by replacing beverages such as sodas with a cup of green tea or water. This ensures that you cut down on caffeine.
